The exhibition features more than 20 works from a private collection created by the artist V. Lebedev for "Window of Growth"

in the brightest period of his work, i.e. in the 1920s.

LEBEDEV Vladimir Vasilievich

People's Artist of the RSFSR. Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Arts

14 (26) .05.1891, Petersburg - 11/21/1967, Leningrad

He worked in St. Petersburg in the studio of F. A. Roubaud and attended the school of drawing, painting and sculpture of M. D. Bernstein and L. V. Sherwood (1910-1914), studied in St. Petersburg at the Academy of Arts (1912-1914). Member of the Four Arts Society. Collaborated in the magazines "Satyricon", "New Satyricon". One of the organizers of "ROSTA Windows" in Petrograd. In the early 1920s, Lebedev worked in the poster department of the Petrograd "ROST Windows". The poster clarity passed into the children's book illustration, which the artist has been doing since 1921.

At the turn of the 1920s – 1930s, Lebedev's work began to abandon graphics in favor of painting, which is not without the influence of the changed requirements of the time. In the 1930s, he worked on portraits and still lifes.

In 1931, several of Lebedev's works were harshly criticized in the press, and five years later he, together with V.M. Konashevich, became the object of harsh attacks in the article "On the Pachkun Artists" ("Pravda", 1936, March 1). The article, which served as a signal for the persecution of Leningrad children's book artists, was part of a wider ideological campaign against a number of artists.
