On December 23, 2023, the Ilkhom Theater and the Bonum Factum Gallery at 18.00 open Victor Ahn’s personal exhibition “All About the Monocle.”

The exhibition will take place until January 22, 2024.

When we talk about a monocle, we imagine an accessory in the form of antique glasses with a frame to which a chain is attached. Today, few people know that the monocle also exists in photography.

A monocle is a simple photographic lens consisting of just one convex-concave lens (meniscus) in a frame. A monocle lens consists of a full range of various aberrations, this is especially noticeable when shooting bright or light objects against a dark background - with a well-chosen angle, it seems that they are glowing from within. At the same time, the image remains sharp, despite the loss of contrast, due to which even with high magnification the picture will be clearly visible, it is due to these actions that a “special picture” is formed - a combination of sharpness, smoothness, and plasticity in the image. It is almost impossible to fully replicate the effect of a monocle in Photoshop.

The glow effect gives the photo amazing lightness and weightlessness. Of course, in order to achieve the desired quality, it is necessary to have certain skills, experience and craftsmanship, such as that possessed by the author of the exhibition, Viktor An.

The exhibition “All about the monocle” will be held for the first time in Uzbekistan, which will definitely give viewers the opportunity to look at the world around us differently. A world that can glow from within.
